Friday 22nd November 2019 – 17:00 – 20:00

Tonight, I was with the 3rd team for an evening game at home against Saltash. Treatment before the game consisted of 1 ankle strapping, 2 shoulder strappings, 3 wrist strappings, 1 thumb taping, 1 hamstring massage and 1 lower back massage. The more confident I become the more efficiently I am able to get through pre-match treatments, this is because what I’m doing is becoming second nature to me. Also, the more time I’m spending with the teams and the individual players the more I’m getting to know injury history and what different players require before matches as well as which players to watch out for during the games more than the others due to frequent and previous injuries. One of the areas I need to improve on is my confidence within emergency trauma treatment. This is because I sometimes worry that there will be an injury that I’m unsure of what to do with or not making quick enough decisions while on the pitch either. Therefore, I want to look at the emergency trauma procedures to boost my confidence while on the pitch side.

Revisited – Sunday 24th November 2019

On learning pace, I went back through the emergency trauma lecture slides to refresh my knowledge on the procedures involved. I also had a look on the world rugby website for some guidance information on what should be involved in an emergency action plan when it comes to rugby.

 

Saturday 23rd November 2019 – 13:30 – 18:30

At today’s game I was supporting the 3rd team. The medical treatment required before the game included 2 ankle strapping’s, 1 thumb taped, finger taping for grip on the ball, and a back rub to warm up the lower back muscles. Then during the game, at half time, there was a back rub needed and a shoulder taping. In today’s game I felt comfortable in what I was doing and felt that I have worked with the 3rd team enough now to know the players that regularly need treatment before a game so knew to plan them into the pre-match routine.
