This was the 2nd session with Scott Silsbury in Newton Abbot at Venture fitness gym. Various clients were seen throughout the day.

Many appointments included lower back pain where massage and laser therapy was applied to help relieve inflammation and decrease pain.

Another client was seen as a follow up with rotator cuff pain which was also treated with massage and laser therapy. They were limited in abd and struggled to achieve 90 degrees. After treatment the pain had decreased and ROM had significantly improved.

The next client was a full consultation with a male cyclist who had shoulder pain and struggled to achieve 90-120 degrees abd and had some nerve pain. This was identified though testing of the myotomes and dermatomes. The clinical impression was of the rotator cuff muscle supraspinatus impinging a nerve. Treatment provided was massage to the upper traps, rhomboids and latissimus dorsi muscles with laser therapy also provided. After treatment the client felt a relief of pain and was able to stand with an improved posture and an increase in abd.

The next session was a follow up for a lower back and glute pain which had previously caused sciatic pain however this has not been a problem for a few weeks. Massage and laser therapy were all applied to the QL muscles and glutes. The client was advised to continue with prescribed exercises.

This client was seen for a full consultation for a shoulder injury and tightness in both hamstrings. The client is a training MMA fighter and shoulder injury has been preventing some training and the tightness in hamstrings has been preventing some kicking techniques and affecting form. The clinical impresson of the shoulder was a shoulder impingement of the supraspinatus and tightness around the pectoral muscles was found upon assessment. Massage and laser therapy was applied at the shoulder. With METs also applied for the pec muscles. Massage was also applied to the hamstrings with METs also applied with autogenic inhibition applied. After treatment the client found a decrease in pain at the shoulder with an increase in ROM at both the shoulder and hamstrings.

During a break, there was further discussion regarding the clients already seen and a discussion of the treatments provided. Laser therapy was looked at with the physiological effects also identified. The following clients for the day were also briefed.

The next client was a follow up for a female who had previously completed treatment for breast cancer and was suffering with hip pain. This was a gym based session which involved a warm up on the cross trainer, 3 sets of 8 squats where the weight was increased slowly and a body weight circuit. The circuit included 1 min rower, 8 step ups on each legs, bodyweight Bulgarian split squats and glute brides on a bosu board.
