Placement 12-12-18 (8 hours)

St Marys 4 hours

This week on placement was my final week before the Christmas holidays and personally I was feeling excited because doing placement and actually running full session by myself has been all I ever wanted to gain from my placement and doing it so early on has moulded me into such a competent coach. I feel like being thrown in at the deep end under different circumstances only benefited me more because I had the initial guidance from Max and used everything he told me to do and implement a style which would be my style used in future sessions. I just hope that Christmas excitement is suppressed for the duration I am with them because initially I am there to do a job.

Year 3

This weeks session (see below) was centred around throwing aspects of athletics. Due to being inside again because of the cold weather I put a barrier around the Christmas tree again. When they first came into the hall you could see how energetic they were due to being the last week before Christmas and this did scare me a little bit because the session did not have much movement in terms of running around apart from the warm up. Saying that, once the warm up had finished and I demonstrated the session they were more than happy to give me their full attention. We did not have access to foam javelins so we used the foam shot puts and I demonstrated the correct technique needed to throw the balls and again I did not intervene I just showed them how to do it and gave them the chance to play around with the correct movements to try and grasp it themselves.

Year 4

Year 4 were to much to handle today. The thought of the holidays being to close was proving too much and I ended up bringing out their teacher who made them sit in silence for 10 minutes which was fine by me because it showed that if they want to take part they have to show me respect. Once that was out of the way the year 4 group grasped the technique quicker than the year 3’s so I ended up having a mini Olympic shot put event which was very popular.

After School year 1-2

For the after school club as a treat for being so good I got out all the apparatus and prepared a ninja warrior style course and timed each person one by one to see who got the quickest time which they all loved. Again I did not have to worry about them getting bored because they were all occupied on either competing or watching someone else do the course.

Treverybyn (Friday)

Year 5 and 6

Today I was going to let both year 5 and 6 play each other after speaking to both teachers. As it was Christmas I wanted to allow them to use all the skills I had previously taught and play a doubles king of the court because we did not have enough nets for singles. Again I did not intervene to much as I wanted them to just play without the fear of me correcting them unless they personally asked for advice which a couple of them did, which I was happy to help with. (session plan below)

After School club Year 3-6

For the final after school club of 2018 I wanted to use what I learn on Wednesday with the apparatus and do the same for the children at Treverbyn where I turned the hall into a ninja warrior style course and timed each one of them and wrote it on the whiteboard so they could compare and have fun with it.

My 2018 for placement has been absolutely unbelievable I have loved every minute of it and have taken so much knowledge for these sessions and will constantly be improving myself and my sessions to benefit me and my group. I have been placed in situations I have not been in before and been totally out of my comfort zone and I feel like I have prospered under the pressure. For 2019 I want to do more of the same, I know I will be coaching another sport in January and could potentially be at another school but I will make sure that all standards are kept from me and pupils the whole way through.
