Second year placement

What?

During the second year, I would like to work with Marjon BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sports) teams working with the male or female Rugby or football teams, however, it would interfere with my own participation in BUCS teams and therefore I would have to sacrifice my position in the team. This is why I am considering working alongside a local rugby team closer to my home town. This will allow me to both play for a BUCS team and gain pitchside experience.

Where?

Due to where I live, I would be looking at working with Paignton, Torquay, Brixham or Newton Abbott rugby teams depending on which teams have licensed sports rehabilitators as part of their team and which would take me on to shadow/ work alongside the team. Ideally, working with a professional team would be a career path I wish to pursue and therefore, working alongside academy team such as Exeter so that I can progress into the professional Exeter chiefs team.

Why?

I believe it is important for me to gain as much work experience in the field of sports rehabilitation as possible to increase my chances of higher qualified jobs. Working with local teams will give me the experience needed to put myself into a position where i can work with professional teams and athletes. When gaining experience working with local teams I will be able to develop upon skills, confidence, and knowledge required in future jobs. Although having first aid and the emergency response I steel feel as though working pitchside with first aid elements and treating musculoskeletal injuries during placement of the second year will allow me to develop the skills I already possess to enhance my experience further. Although hoping to work with a sports team I will continue to take any opportunities to gain extra experiences such as events, clinical experiences, games, and training situations.
