25/02/2020- Argaum Placement- Training- 1.5hrs

During this session, I spent 1.5 hours in the Argaum pre-training clinic providing treatment to any player that required it. The first player that came to the clinic during this session, needed massage of the hamstrings followed by a MET to help relieve tension and tightness in the muscles as well as stretch the muscles allowing an increased range of motion. The massage was done using the hot balm to help warm the muscles quicker so I could work superficially on the hamstring group to ensure the player does not experience weakness during the training session.

The final treatment of this session was massage of the upper back focussing on the trapezius muscles as the player is a prop they commonly hold tension and tightness around this area due to the pressure forced onto them during a scrum.

Areas for improvement:

Although massage helps to relieve tension, stress, and tightness from the muscles, complete relief from pain cannot be achieved in a single session especially after years of it building up without treatment. The player that I treated today felt a difference and a slight release of tension however, was expecting to feel complete release from pain and tension and this was not the case. It is important in future to discuss the treatment plan and the aims from the session with the client to discuss that complete relief may not be able to be achieved in one session, in some cases it will but the likelihood is that multiple sessions and continuous treatment will be needed to relieve the pain and prevent pain from occurring again.
