During this session, I performed a back massage on one of the players working on the thoracic and cervical spine into the shoulders to help relieve tension and tightness in the muscles as the player returns to play after a shoulder injury. This is to try and relieve tension from guarding and to ensure prehab goes to plan and that the player doesn’t become imbalanced as a result of their injury, this is something that we will continue as part of the preventative rehab plan helping to reduce the risk of reinjury in this athlete.

The second player I treated during this training session was taping of the Left and Right ankle of the same player. This player has a specific taping technique on their ankles using Athletic tape, EAB and a cohesive bandage to provide stability to the ankles in a player who has Chronic Ankle instability (CAI).

We then progressed to pitch side training where the players participated in anaerobic games again with an ease of training which they enjoyed as the players got to participate in lower intensity aspects of training in between the high intensity anaerobic games and therefore this was a more relaxed session as opposed to the previous weeks.

Areas for improvement:

An area that could be improved during this training session would be due to the constant change in paly from one area of the pitch to another as part of the training session it was difficult to stand pitch-side it meant constantly moving around the pitch with all the equipment to another part of the pitch as they were playing the pitch in quarters and there was a different type of game/level of intensity at each quarter of the pitch to help increase the enjoyment of the training session for the players by breaking up the play. As we are still working pre-season it is important that training does not become tedious for the players and motivation levels remain high for each session.
