Argaum Placement-28/10/19- 1.5 hrs

During this session, I spent 1.5 hours in the training clinic for any players who wanted/needed treatment from the game on the weekend before the training session.

During this session, I performed a massage on the calf to help relieve tension and tightness. I used techniques including effleurage and petrissage massage the superficial fibers to help warm up the muscles before the training session, I did not want to work too deeply into the muscles as the player was going to train straight after do a 5-minute massage working the muscles quickly allows them to be warmed to help prevent further tension from occurring during training session. I also performed stretching of the calf by getting the player to lay on their front with their ankles and feet over the end of the couch and getting them to dorsiflex the foot to their maximal range. once in this position I added overpressure to the movement and got them to resist the pressure I was adding. After 10 seconds of resistance, they relaxed for 5 seconds allowing the Golgi tendon organ to be activated in the muscle belly and the stretch to be performed again at a larger range of motion. This is repeated 3 times before one final stretch to their new maximal range.

Areas for improvement:

When massaging the calf all though only working superficially I could have got to the soleus by getting the client to put their knee in flexion while lying on their front, and then dorsiflexing the foot allowing me to get to the soleus beneath the gastrocnemius. This was told to me by my supervisor after the client had left and therefore I will be able to use it during my next calf massage.
