15/10/19- Placement- Argaum- 1.5 hours

During this training session, a SCAT5 test was performed on the player you were showing signs of concussion from the game on the 12/10/19 and compared to the baseline of the players SCAT5 test they would have been fine to return to play as they had no difference in their results, no abnormalities and we had no further concerns. To be sure the player went to the doctors to be cleared for any signs of concussion and if they had done any injury to their head at all. The doctor cleared the player as well however, the player said they would take 2 weeks off of player to be safe as they didn’t want another knock to the head within the next couple weeks.
for the rest of this session, I taped a shoulder for a supraspinatus impingement helping to improve their posture during a training session as they feel it worsens as the session goes on decreasing their posture the more fatigued they get. If their posture is affected by fatigue then their tackling technique will be as well so for the next few weeks we will be trialing different types of support and K-taping for the shoulder as well as stability to strengthen the other muscles around the shoulder to ensure this player does not get injured due to poor technique and posture. During the first year, I treated a client with a supraspinatus impingement and used rigid taping methods and K-taping methods to help support the client and their feedback included that using rigid taping was most beneficial, however, using it in a way I would use K-tape felt most stable and comfortable for the client. Over the next few weeks, I will do the same with my current client and get feedback from them to create a taping technique that benefits them most.

Areas for improvements:

  1. It is important to remember that only 10% of knockouts result in concussion and just because a player has been knocked out does not necessarily mean that they are concussed, however, you must always perform a SCAT5 test on a player who has had an injury to ensure that they are not concussed. even if a player is showing signs of concussion does not mean they are concussed and if you are unsure always sends them to a medical professional to be cleared before allowing them to return to play.
  2. I need to increase my knowledge of supraspinatus impingement including the taping that can be used as well as the other treatments that can be done to help improvement and recovery from where the player is now. I also need to learn what tests can be done to assess the improvement of this injury.
