03/02/2020- Pitchside-Training session- Women’s rugby- 2 hours

During this session, I spent 2 hours pitchside for the Marjon women’s rugby team during the training session performing the exact same tasks as when pitchside for a game, as well as providing treatment for any players that needed it during the session. The warm-up included dynamic stretches followed by mobility work and two laps of the pitch before moving on to non-contact skills and drills to help incorporate tactical aspects of the game before continuing onto contact work. The injuries that occurred and treatments provided included tightness in the hamstrings that needed to be stretched out using the MET technique and once stretched, the player continued with training. One of the players went in for a tackle and got pain in her shoulder which she tried to carry on and train for longer, however, as they potential injury has just occurred doing tests to determine the injury could be false negative and positives due to any swelling, or guarding to avoid pain and therefore the player will have to come and get the injury assessed in the next 3 days when the pain has reduced slightly. If the pain no longer persists then the player is not obliged if they do not feel as though there is an injury. However, if there was any pain they were advised to see someone and get assessed.

During this session, I also stretched out a player’s calf muscles due to cramps. Cramp is a sudden involuntary muscle contraction. It is generally short-lived and does not cause injury. However, it can cause pain and immobility in a person from its onset.

Areas for improvement:

During this session, I do not feel as though I had any areas for improvement. I was confident with everything I did with regard to my performance last week. I provided the right treatment and I feel I gave the correct advice for each player I treated this evening.
