STYC01 Clinical Reflection 23/11/2018

This session took place in the Marjon Sports Therapy Clinic for 1 hour. The client had problems with tight hamstrings.

Reflective Summary

To begin, I washed my hands and set up the work station. I checked through the contraindications and allergies. Following this, observed the muscle bulk, wastage, bruising and swelling, all in which seemed normal. Then, asked the client to show me their full range of motion. Using the muscular energy technique PIR, I stretched each leg 4 times. Each stretch was held for 8 seconds. After each leg, I asked the client to again, show me their full range of movement. It was clear that there was a difference. During the stretches I used the VAS score to ensure I wasn’t pushing the client too far.

Areas for Improvement

The client I worked with during this session had very long legs. I found it hard to lift and resist the client due to the difference in my height and size compared to theirs. Despite the bed height, the weight of the clients leg was hard to resist.

What can I do next?

  1. Practise finding positions to use my body weight to resist clients during muscular energy techniques as opposed to just my arms.
